A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week.
A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

a taste of tuesday: Energy Balls

I have been experimenting with making organic energy balls. There are a million different recipes for them. Literally. Type in "energy ball recipe" into google and come back with 4,990,000 results.  So when I say millions, I'm not lying. But I have to say that my blogger friend, Kim at your green baby, has been most of my inspiration with all the yummy delicious snacks she makes for her little guy. So, last week I scoured the pantry and came up with this concoction:

Gluten Free Organic Energy Balls Recipe:

1 Tbsp organic hemp seeds
1 Tbsp organic chia seeds
1 Tbsp organic honey
1/4 C organic sunflower seeds
1/4 C organic pumpkin seeds
1/4 C organic coconut flakes (I crushed them into smaller pieces after I took this photo)
1/4 C organic gluten free oats
1/4 C organic dried cranberries
1/2 C organic nut butter

Note: Next time I will use more nut butter since I kept adding more ingredients. My end product was a bit crumbly. You decide how much you need based on what texture you like. And experiment with ingredients... try adding granola instead of oats, agave instead of honey, chocolate chips or raisins instead of cranberries.  The possibilities are endless!!

Combine everything in a large bowl and mix well.

Roll into balls and set on wax paper and refrigerate minimum 1 hour. Enjoy.

Everyone in our family loved these... and they went so fast I didn't get a chance to take another 'pretty' photo of them... or a photo of any one of us enjoying them!!

What is your favorite snack for the whole family?

First Farmer's Market of the Season...

This past Saturday was the season's first farmer's market. Mostly greens and tomatoes and starts for your own garden from our favorite local farmers, but it was farmer's market none-the-less. Our good friend (and possibly Avi's best friend) Reji joined us. We made bets on how many minutes before we saw someone we knew. We saw people we knew before we even finished making our bets. Seeing old friends, meeting new ones, gathering in the grass eating some Sister's Pantry dumplings, buying some greens and yummy applesauce... and a little hula hopping... no better way to spend a saturday morning.

Hard times come again no more...

When a kidlet doesn't sleep, it doesn't leave much time or space for his Ema to be writing blog posts and importing photos. It also leaves little time for anything else except for added stress on everything else here... especially in the dark hours. So if you haven't noticed.. things have been a little slow over here. Don't give up on me... just know that my efforts are on hold until I can come up for a little air again.

In the meantime, I'm reminding myself....

may i learn to settle in the space between....

may i learn to wait patiently for my time to blossom...

may i be as hardy as the chard in the spring snow....

may i continue to be inspired by this little wonder who doesn't want to sleep...

...and a song to keep me sane until the sunshines over here again.
